Outline of the BCM Proces![]() The BCM process consists of six steps, starting with the BCM Policy (step 1). This is where, to begin with,it is roughly determined who will occupy him/herself with the process and which organisational divisions will be surveyed. Then, a risk inventory is taken (step 2). In the Business Impact Analysis (step 3), the damaging consequences are determined when, as a result of a risk calamity becoming manifest, processes are closed down. In the Business Case & Benefit Logic (step 4), the results of this are given feedback, after which the policy is developed further. For now, the decision can be made which measures, for which risks, against what costs and in which context should be implemented. After this the measures (step 5) can be implemented, tested and maintained (step 6). The testing and maintenance are subject to constant input for renewed analyses and policy-making. |
PreconditionsFor the implementation of BCM, awareness is an important precondition and it starts with recognising the benefit and necessity of BCM at management level. When the strategic level emphasizes the benefit and necessity, the preconditions for the BCM process organisation can be created. The example, emanated by the management should not be underestimated. Communication of this example can take place almost unnoticed, more implicitly than explicitly. It takes place verbally as well as non-verbally in attitude, behaviour, words and actions, towards all sections of the organisation. Without the management’s commitment, the necessity for BCM will not be experienced on a tactical and operational level. |
